My mummy called me at 6.45am to tell me that the parcel she is sending over is about 30kg. Faint. She forgot Singapore is 6 hrs ahead and thus the early call and the 30kg parcel is due to the fact that it contained a rice cooker, a kettle, some dried stuff for cooking, some maggie, biscuits, milo, cereal drink, my shampoo & shower foam. Doesn't look alot right? But the cooker, kettle, shampoo, shower foam must have weigh a ton.
When I enquired from SingPost back then, it was about SGD 170+ for kg. Now with 30kg... the price.. erm.. now let's not get there.
But well, at least I think it will be able to last me for 2 months. Breakfast la. The rest of the meals still have to cook. The living standards here is indeed high, high, high. Though Norway is a welfare state where medical care and education is provided f.o.c, there are still quite a number of beggers on the streets. And mind you they are young and able-bodied, not the old and diabled kind. Welfare state, yet having this kind of beggers so I guess you really can't survive if you don't earn at least a few thounsand dollars a month.
In Singapore you can go out with just a 50 dollar note but here, you better bring at least 200 dollars with you. With an Ikea hotdog costing 10 Nok (SGD 2.50) when you can get it for SGD 1 you can imagine how fast the money dissappears.
Thus far, for one week here I think I've spent around SGD 600. NO shopping, purely necessities (pillow, groceries, transport), and I've not paid rent for this month. I think it is SGD800. Hold your jaw before they drop.
