Went to Gronland after this morning's class to buy rice. SGD 6 for 5 kg. Then we decided to be nice to ourselves today and have lunch outside. We had Kebab Wrap with Coke Set (64 Nok). It was very filling...But the beef and lamb taste about the same. I wonder is it is my tastebuds or did they make a mistake when preparing our order. Anyway none of us brought our cameras with us so no pictures.

The 3 of them just went for job around the lake and apparently it is not very good to job in the open, at least not in this kind of weather. After jogging they didn't perspire at all but their nose are dripping and their heads are numb. Guess it has to do with the weather.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
InSA (International Student Association) organized a movie screening yesterday and we went for it! We were the only asian exchange students there but it doesn't matter. The movie screened was Pursuit of Happiness by Will Smith. When the movie first began I found it somewhat familiar and when it got to the part where the lead, Chris Gardner, said "I have 2 qns for you. What do you do and how do you do it?", I'm pretty sure I have read this story somewhere. This movie is based on a true story but I'm pretty sure I've not seen it (or maybe I did while scrolling through the in-flight entertainment) but I might have read it somewhere.

Anyway the story is about a man who has the determination to get what he wants and he got it in the end. There is a part where he told his son that he doesn't like him to be shooting hoops everyday. He can play but he shouldn't be good in that. His son, an obedient boy, said ok and stop playing but he doesn't really know why his father is so upset. His father just doesn't want his son to end up like himself, trying to make ends meet everyday but the ends never met. Chris Gardner went on to tell his son this "You don't let others tell you what you cannot do, not even me. If you have a dream you chase it." Chris had just completed high school and is a salesman who doesn't earn much but he change his life around by applying for an internship at Dean Witter. He is competing with graduates etc and at the end he is the one who shone and stood out. The morale of the story is that it doesn't matter if your background is not as good as other. What matters is how badly you want to succeed. If you want it badly enough, you will push yourself to get it.

Another interesting part of the story is that Chris mentioned that happiness is noth something you can own, you can only pursue it. For happiness is like a goal. Some people measure happiness by how much money they have, others measure it by how many cars they own etc. There is nothing wrong with using all these as measurement. What matters is that you do not lose yourself while pursuing your happiness. If you lost yourself while looking for happiness, will you know it when you have found it? And also it is important to first determine what happiness means to you.

This movie also further strengthen my belief that money is important. True, money cannot buy happiness but without money, you will never be happy. I don't mean those who are poor will never be happy, neither do I mean those who are filthy rich will surely be happy. Think of this. If you have enough money to fulfil your basic needs (shelter, food, clothes) but not anything more, you can be happy if you like this kind of life. But if you barely have enough money to fulfil your basic needs, will you be happy? No. For you will be worrying over money issues. Money to pay bills, to buy food etc. The root of all evil is money. Really. If you're filthy rich and you're unhappy then it is a different kind of unhappiness.
