Blood Diamond

Just came back from another movie screening by InSA, its showing Blood Diamonds this time. It starred Leonardo Dicaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou and has got 5 academy awards nomination. It came out in 2006 I think but me being ME, obviously did not heard of it much less watched it.

But I must say it is quite a good movie, really gave an insight to what is happening in another part of the world. It is about the quest for diamonds and where it indirectly kept the civil war going as when there is demand for diamonds, then there will be supply and so it is only a matter of who provides the supply. What amazes me is the way the rebels capture young children to be their child soldiers and they way they brain-washed them by making them repeat sentences like "I'm the hero", "I'm saving you from the government" blah blah... I can't exactly remember the exact words but I find it very cliche. Like how can you turn someone into another person just by making the person repeat somethings which they are not. But there was one scene that shows the son pointing the gun at the father, just coz he has been brain-washed to believe that the rebel army is his new family, the family that saved him.

I guess this is what people meant when they say that even if you do not believe something but if you hear it repeatedly, you will soon start to doubt yourself.
It is amazing how vastly different the life people lead in another place just maybe a few hours plan ride away from us.
